Discussion

te2The other day, I reviewed an app by the name of Fast Notepad. Fast Notepad was an alright app. It did what it was supposed to do and nothing more. It was very lacking in features but I didn’t hate it too much. Text Edit is a much better option. This app has tons of options, and does a lot of cool things. It’s strange to say that about something so simple, but in reality, Text Edit is one of the best.

I use Evernote for just about everything, but I still need a text editor. That’s usually where something like Text Edit comes in. I can’t use Evernote to quickly edit some source code, to type out something that I need to email via an attachment, or just stuff that isn’t worthy of syncing to my Evernote account.

The coolest feature, when it comes down to it, is the inter grated file manager. This might not sound like much, but I find it infuriating when I have to open up an external file browser to remember the exact file path of the text file I want to edit. I love that I can just click options and click open, and then the file manager comes in. It lets me browse for my files that I want to edit, and everything works really well. Another great thing about Text Edit, is the customization. You can customize the font size, font color, font type, and even the background color of the text editor itself. There’s a ton of options to choose from.

There really isn’t a con that I’m willing to list about this app, because it’s done so very well, but there is something worth noting. The development of this app has stopped. The developer will no longer be maintaining this app, so we will not be seeing any kind of new features. That isn’t that big of a deal seeing as how this app is pretty much perfect. There’s really nothing else I could think of adding, and I’m really satisfied as using this for my basic text editing program.

I wish the developer had some kind of donate button. I’d be more than happy to give him a few dollars for creating such a wonderful app. Even if he’s not maintaining Text Edit, he deserves it. Good development should not go unnoticed. If this were a scaled review I’d give it a 9.8/10.

Conclusion and download link

If you’re in need of an app that edits text, this is pretty much the app you need to get. Forget the other ones; this is the single greatest, ad-free text editor that I’ve ever found on Android. I don’t mean to trash the other apps, but I really feel that this is the best. What are you waiting for? Install this now!
