How to root Galaxy S6 SM-G920T T-Mobile in Android 5.0 Lollipop [Guide]

samsung-s6The Samsung Galaxy S6 is the new smartphone everyone in the Sammy business is counting on lifting them out of the current funk they are in after last year’s S5 flopped. The great news is that if you liked the S5 you will undoubtedly love the S6 as it’s definitely better than its predecessors. If you are the proud owner of any of these Sammy phones and would like to open the ports with root access you can do that by following the guide below.

REQUIREMENTS

  • The S6 comes with Android 5.0-5.0.2 out of the box. Therefore, this guide is for all of you who are running Android 5.0.2 or under. If you are running something more modern and reading this in the future we cannot guarantee this guide works for you.
  • You can only follow the guide if you have the S6 and no other device. Specifically, this handset comes with the S6 Edge sister phone. You cannot follow this guide with that phone either.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

  • Make sure you read the requirements above to not brick your phone.
  • Download the Samsung Galaxy USB Drivers for mobile phones from here. Scroll down the page until you get to where it says Samsung.
  • Note that following the guide below does void the warranty.
  • Using CF-Auto-Root by Chainfire does trip Knox. It will depend what the rules are for your device whether or not that means the warranty will not work in future if you unroot the device.
  • Make sure you can connect to the Windows PC perfectly by enabling the USB Debugging Mode from the Developer Options section: Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging.

HOW TO ROOT THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 G920T (T-MOBILE) RUNNING ANDROID 5.0 LOLLIPOP

1. Download the rooting file from here.

2. Download the Odin version from here.

3. Extract both packages to the desktop of the computer.

4. Run the Odin tool so it’s working on the desktop.

5. Boot the Samsung Galaxy S6 in Download Mode by pressing the Volume Down + Power + Home buttons together and pressing the Power button again if you see the Android logo.

6. Connect the S6 to the computer using the USB cable.

7. Click the PDA button in the Odin application and upload the executable rooting tar.md5 file extension from the extracted content on the desktop.

8. Click the Start button and wait until the flashing is done.

The S6 will reboot when it’s done. Now you are free to unplug the cable and take control of the smartphone and your Google account again.
