How to root LG G3 D851 on Android 5.0 Lollipop [Guide]

Android LollipopIf you are a subscriber to the T-Mobile phone carrier network, you might wish to root the D581 on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Up until recently, there was no option for those who had accepted the Lollipop notification to update the OS away from the earlier version of Android KitKat. Those attempting the rooting using Purple Drake were getting fail messages. The new method we have here should work smoothly, though, and it only takes a few minutes. Here’s how it’s done:

REQUIREMENTS

  • Only follow this guide for the T-Mobile variant of the LG G3 smartphone (model number D851).
  • We recommend sourcing a new guide for those running Android M in future. Likewise, you may find another OTA update for Lollipop before the switch to Android M that patches this exploit.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

  • Install the LG USB Drivers on your computer. We recommend you use a Windows PC to have this guide working.
  • Firstly, unhide the Developer Options menu by tapping over the build number that’s available from the About Device menu.
  • Now enter the Developer Options from the Settings app and enable the USB Debugging Mode available inside.
