[Mac OS X] Keep up with the weather and time across the world with Living Earth HDSeptember 18, 2012 0 Email article | Print article
Living Earth HD is a beautiful application that will show you the weather and time across the globe in real time. It supports millions of cities all over the world and in nearly every country. This application takes basic information and displays it in a beautiful, unobtrusive manner. However, this application can force your computer to use quite a bit of resources.
Living Earth HD is an absolutely gorgeous way of keeping track of the time and weather. The application will stay in your top menu bar, only to become visible after you click on it. This application acts as a giant satellite by giving you a map of the cloud cover all over the world in real time. In addition, it will also give you basic weather features like 2-hour and 7-day forecasts. This is interesting because you can actually see the weather in other places rather than just read about it. This application also has a live wallpaper and a screensaver feature to keep you updated no matter what state your computer is in. One really cool feature is what you can see when it comes to sunsets and sunrises. With Living Earth HD, you will get live views of sunrise and sunset boarders. This means that you can literally watch the day and night shadow line progress over the world throughout the day. In addition, you can observe the seasons changing in any part of the globe by viewing leaf, snow, and ice coverage.
While this program looks and acts beautifully, your computer really has to work hard in order to run it properly. For starters, this application uses an incredibly large amount of RAM. If you have 4gb or 8gb of RAM, then you should be fine. But for the basic Mac models with only 2gb of ram, they could definitely have some trouble running this with other applications. In addition, this application is very graphically-heavy. As a result, you will find your battery draining much more quickly when this application is running.
Generally speaking, this application does a fantastic job of displaying seemingly dull information in an exciting way. The added features make this application much more useful than any normal weather and time app. In fact, this application can actually be used for many hours on end because there is so much going on in the other parts of the world that may interest you. If your computer’s specs are high, then you should have no problem and using this program will be a breeze. However, if you have a basic-specced Mac, then you might want to consider using a more simple weather application.
