These are the guidelines to root Samsung Galaxy E5 SM-E500H smartphones running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop using the Odin flash tool, Cf-Auto-Root by Chainfire and a Windows computer.
REQUIREMENTS
- You need to be running on the LMY47X.E500HXXU1BOK1 firmware based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop before using this guide. You can follow that guide through to update if your device is not running that firmware.
BEFORE WE BEGIN
- You will lose your data if this is your first time rooting the Samsung Galaxy E5 with the CF-Auto-Root tool. The tool will run a script that automatically unlocks your bootloader and during that time it will get wiped. You can take a backup of your data and restore it later.
- Check you have the Developer Options unlocked: Menu > Settings > About Device > tap the Build Number seven times.
- Turn on the USB Debugging Mode from the Developer Options so you can connect your E5 device to the computer properly. You can turn the said mode on by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
- Download the Samsung USB Drivers for your computer and the Samsung Galaxy E5 device fro our USB Driver download page.

- Extract both the files to the desktop of the Windows PC by right-clicking and picking the “extract here” option from the menu.
- Double-click over the Odin executable and the flash tool will open on your desktop. Leave it open.
- Long-press the Power button on the Samsung Galaxy E5 smartphone and turn it off completely.
- Reboot the Samsung Galaxy E5 device in download mode.
- Connect the E5 to the computer using the USB cable.
- Click the PDA/AP button and upload the CF-Auto-Root tar file for your E5 that you extracted on the desktop earlier.
- Do not touch any of the default settings from the Odin flash tool’s user-interface.
- Click the Start button and wait for the flashing to begin.
Do not touch any buttons until you can see the flashing has finished. You know that is the case when you have the pass message on the Odin user-interface and your Samsung Galaxy E5 device automatically reboots. You’ll need to reboot it manually if that does not happen automatically.
