The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is one of the all-time great devices from the Sammy list of tablets, and it can now be rooted running on the current Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. The root access this time will mean much the same as it did last time: installing your applications like Titanium Backup, ROM Toolbox, and maybe even some Xposed Framework if you prefer it over a custom ROM.
REQUIREMENTS
- The following guide is made for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition with the model number SM-P605 running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The developer, Chainfire, gives a firmware build number which the current rooting exploit is based; do not bother flashing that same build number, it’s just to be used as an indicator. The guide should work fine for any SM-P605 tablet running on any version of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. You can check what version yours is running by tapping on the Menu > Settings
BEFORE WE BEGIN
- Enable the USB Debugging Mode on your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet so you can connect it to the computer and use the flashing tool. You can enable it by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
HOW TO ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10.1 2014 SM-P605 RUNNING ON ANDROID 5.1.1 LOLLIPOP UPDATES
- Download the updated CF-Auto-Root exploit for the Note 10.1 P605 device from here.
- Extract the rooting exploit file to your desktop by right-clicking > extract here from the menu.
- Right-click on the Odin flashing tool executable you can see on the desktop and choose to run the file as an administrator.
- With the Odin flashing tool open on the computer, boot the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 to download mode and then connect it to the computer with the USB cable.
- Click on the AP button from the Odin user-interface and browse the desktop for the rooting exploit ending in the tar.md5 for your Note 10.1 tablet.
Do not make any changes to the default settings you get on the Odin user-interface; continue with the Auto Reboot box set to the ‘On’ position. - Click the Start button and the CF-Auto-Root will now get flashed to your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 device.
Wait until you get the pass message available from the Odin flashing tool and your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 device reboots into recovery mode. Any device that does not make it to recovery mode — albeit rare — will need to be booted to recovery mode manually after the flashing competes. Chainfire states that if it doesn’t get to recovery mode, then the rooting will not have worked.
