About iOS Apps of the Day
iOS has over 600,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our iOS Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! [Subscribe to dotTech to never miss an article: RSS Feed | E-mail]

GDrive is a simple, fast, and free Google Drive client. The app allows you to access every file on your Google Drive and provides the necessary file management services such as copy, move, and delete. GDrive supports multiple Google Drive accounts, and even provides a passcode lock if you want to keep your files private from others. The app also provides the ability to download files to a local folder, in case you want to save the files for offline access. With Google’s own Google Drive app failing to meet expectations, this is the only Google Drive client to own on the App Market.

Air Media Center allows you to enjoy your computer’s entire digital media collection on your iOS device. With the help of a free server application, Air Media Server, for your PC/MAC, you are able to stream your movies, personal videos, photos and music directly to your device. Air Media Center supports all major file types and will automatically transcode your music, video and photo streams on the fly when necessary. This means that endless buffering is a thing of the past, even when trying to access your media over a 3G network.
I have tested many methods for accessing my PC media from my phone, but Air Media Center wins hands down. Most apps in this genre have few issues playing over Wi-Fi, but either don’t offer 3G access or struggle mightily in trying to accomplish it. Air Media Center, with the help of live transcoding, plays 3G quite well with very little, if any slowdowns. What’s even nicer is that the free Air Media Server software automatically forwards the ports on your router to allow access from the outside (i.e. 3G). The app’s settings even provides a easy way to test the connection from the internet, in order to see if everything is set up okay on your end.
[Note: Please take notice that often times the IP address provided by your local cable company is dynamic (i.e. it changes from time to time without notice). This will cause problems with this app and it’s port forwarding if you are trying to access over a 3G network. The best solution is to set up a free dynamic DNS account at a site like no-ip.org, which will monitor your IP address for change. Instead of entering your current IP address in the app, you would enter your dyanamic DNS address.]

Amazing Breaker is an aim-and-shoot game with stunning Retina Display graphics. You are given several different types of bombs, which you slingshot into breathtaking ice sculptures with the goal of eliminating every piece of ice on the screen. Many of the reviewers for this app refer to this app as being similar in concept to Angry Birds. Considering the popularity of the Angry Birds games, this only helps to show how well-designed this game is. What I appreciate most about the game, besides the incredible designed ice sculptures, is that the developers made it quite challenging to get 3 stars on every level. You will find yourself playing the same level several times, trying to find the perfect placement and ideal combination of bombs that will clear all the ice. Very addicting!
