Pong was a wonderful game… back in the early 70s when it was released. Now, we have games like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed, featuring mind-blowingly realistic graphics on increasingly powerful systems. Paddletronic Duel upgrades Pong for the Modern Era, giving it powerups, customizable paddles, and much more game-changing content.
In Paddletronic Duel, you start by choosing a paddle. There’s the classic light and nimble paddle, or you can opt for one that throws ninja stars. There’s several others, but really, who needs a paddle that doesn’t throw ninja stars? After choosing a paddle, you’ll get down to the good stuff: you can now move your paddle in two-dimensional space, an upgrade from Pong’s previous one dimension, and in a few levels, deflecting objects will appear in the center of the screen.
Paddletronic Duel is fully two-player as well, meaning you can play Pong versus your friends and enemies like it’s 1972. It’s not networked, though, meaning you’d really need a tablet to play it on. Overall, Paddletronic Duel is actually pretty awesome. If you are, or were, a fan of Pong, Paddletronic Duel is definitely worth a download, if even just to check out how much the game has changed in the last 40 years.
