If you search for “converter” on the iOS App Store, you get 1,475 results, so trying to find a good one that meets your needs is not the easiest feat. Some do more conversions than others, while user interfaces can vary wildly throughout. Converter Touch is a unique member of the converter genre, because it utilizes a unique and effective drag-and-drop interface in order to attain the conversions.
Converter Touch is split up into three sections, the conversion values in the upper field, the conversion categories right underneath, and all the specific conversion units (based on the category you chose) on the bottom. The app supports the following conversion categories: angle measures, area, currency (real-time rates), data size, data rate, energy, flow, force, fuel consumption, length, power, pressure, radioactivity, speed, temperature, time, torque, typography, volume, weight, luminance, and illuminance. The developer conveniently added history and favorites categories to the middle section as well, which is quite helpful for users who are constantly using the same conversions.
Given the sheer number of converters that I have used, I found Converter Touch to be a refreshing departure from the norm. When you have a category chosen (let’s say weight), you will see all the possible units (i.e. lb, oz, kg, etc.) in rectangular partitions on the bottom. In order to add a unit to the conversion at the top of the screen, you just have to drag the rectangular partition housing the unit on the bottom until it overlaps the conversion values on the very top. You do this for the “convert from” and “convert to” sides of the conversion and the correct conversion will appear. If the numbers aren’t what you want, you just tap on them and a mini-calculator will slide up from the bottom so you can enter the correct value. You even have the option of swapping the “convert from” and “convert to” sides if you are curious about the result.
