Apple has taken a lot of heat over the years for refusing to build a smartphone with a screen larger than 3.5 inches and, when they finally caved and put out an iPhone with a 4 inch screen, people weren’t happy how the screen is “too tall” and “not wide enough”. (I would tend to agree — iPhone 5 looks odd when put next to an iPhone 4S.) Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, never afraid to speak his mind, is among the ones unhappy with Apple with it comes to screen size.

In an interview with TechCentral, Wozniak let it be known he wants Apple to release a small and large version of the iPhone but Apple isn’t going to do that because Apple is “arrogant” and Apple thinks “we’re the only one with the right clue”:

Part of me wishes that Apple had not been so kind of arrogant and feeling we’re the only one with the right clue. I wish they had made a small and a large version of the iPhone; that would have been great for me. Keep the aspect ratio the same, horizontal and vertical the same, but just grow it in the other way.

According to Wozniak, part of the reason Apple did not (will not) release an iPhone with a screen larger than 4 inches, and why Apple went with the taller-but-not-wider mentality, is because Apple openly hit out against Android for large screens in the past and now won’t admit their mistake:

I think Apple tricked itself and said ‘oh you could reach everything with one thumb’ and I don’t see anybody having any trouble using the larger screens. Apple said that as a defensive move because when the other phones came out they all had larger screens. Apple is now trying to run with that defence, saying ‘we are right’ and really there’s a mix of people. Not all people want the same thing and a lot of people really like the big screens.
