So by now you know that Microsoft bought Nokia’s mobile division, and some of you may suggest that now that the software giant has its own mobile phone division, it won’t licensee Windows Phone to other OEMs. Well, that’s not very likely. The Surface tablets didn’t stop PC manufacturers such as HP, Dell, etc from making Windows 8 PCs. So, what about Windows Phone?

Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of operating system, has expressed his thoughts on the acquisition in a blog post. However, what most people may be curious is that if this will affect other OEMs from making Windows Phone devices. The answer to that question is yes and below are his exact words:

“Today’s announcement doesn’t change that – acquiring Nokia’s Devices group will help make the market for all Windows Phones, from Microsoft or our OEM partners.”

So there we go. Other OEMs will still be able to make Windows Phone. Nothing to worry about. If you are really worried, think about how Google’s acquisition of Motorola affected Samsung, HTC or other Android phone manufacturers – did they even care? It’d be the same with Windows Phone.
