Usually we know of two names in the custom recovery industry: the ClockworkMod recovery and the Team Win TWRP recovery. Well, if you’ve been flashing custom ROMS lately, you might also know about the Philz Touch recovery system. In case you hadn’t guessed already, Phil is the developer’s name. As the story goes, it’s the same Phil who developed ClockworkMod recovery, only this time it comes with a twist, ala “Philz Touch. It’s basically CWM with some changes to go with over the stock kernel.

If you want Phil’s version instead of the basic ClockworkMod recovery, you can fully install it by following the steps below.

BEFORE WE BEGIN 

• You’ll need the latest USB drivers that are up to date if your phone is running on the older version. You can grab the link from the second step during the guide.
• You must have a Windows PC, notebook or laptop to apply the guide. We are using the Odin application which is made by Samsung developers for Windows only.
• Since we are connecting to the computer for the steps, you must enable the USB Debugging Mode from the Developer Options menu. Find that from the Settings menu on the phone.
• Installing a custom recovery image does void the warranty on the device. That means you cannot send it away for free repairs.

HOW TO INSTALL THE PHILZ TOUCH RECOVERY IMAGE ON YOUR SAMSUNG GALAXY GRAND 2 SM-G7102

1. Download the Philz Touch Recovery here.
2. Download the Odin to the desktop here.
3. Download the Samsung USB drivers from here if you don’t have the latest ones running already.
4. Extract the Odin zip folder and run the executable file.
5. Enter the phone in Download Mode.
6. Press the Volume Down, Power and Home buttons for entering the mode.
7. Connect the phone to the computer with the USB cable.
8. Click the PDA button.
9. Search for the touch recovery file.
