Are you having trouble finding that yellow star icon for adding bookmarks on your Chrome address bar? If it happens to be missing and you still can’t make it appear even after restarting your browser, then you can try doing these troubleshooting methods.

As a heads up, make sure to keep a backup copy of your existing Chrome bookmarks first. To create a backup copy of your bookmarks, you need to export it first to your computer as an HTML file.

How to restore the missing bookmark star icon in Chrome

• On your Windows computer, go to the directory where your Chrome user data is located.
• For Windows XP users, use the “Run” command to open the address below.
  • %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
• For Windows Vista, 7 and 8 users, copy and paste the address below on Windows Explorer then press “Enter”. Alternatively, you may just paste the file address directly on the Start Menu Search bar then press “Enter”.
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
• Once you’re on the “User Data” folder, find the “Default” folder and then rename it to “backupdefault”.
• After doing so, just launch or open Chrome and a new profile will be automatically created. Try to see if there’s a bookmarks star icon on the address bar. If there is, then you’ve most likely solved the problem.

If creating a new profile failed to solve the missing bookmarks icon issue, you can try this alternate solution:

• Click the “Menu” button for Chrome then go to “More Tools” > “Task Manager”.
• On the task manager window, check if there’s an “Extension: Bookmark Manager” process under “Task”.
• If there is, click on it and then select “End Process”. If the star icon still doesn’t appear, type chrome://flags on the address bar and then press “Enter”.
• On the Chrome Flags page, use the “Find” tool (Ctrl + F) then search for “Enable Enhanced Bookmarks”.
• Once you find it, check whether it’s enabled or disabled. If it’s enabled, “disable” it and then re-launch Chrome.

After doing so, the missing bookmarks star icon should be back to where it really belongs.
