How to root Samsung Galaxy Grand Max SM-G7202 on Android 5.1.1 [Guide]

samsung-galaxy-grand-maxThese are the instructions to root Samsung Galaxy Grand Max smartphones running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop using the updated CF-Auto-Root tool, a Windows computer and the Odin flash tool made by Samsung developers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You must follow this guide if you have the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max with the SM-G7202 model number only.
  • The rooting exploit in this guide is based off the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and LMY48B.G7202DDU1BOK1 firmware. You do not need to be on that same firmware to use this guide. It is just an indicator for you to use. Some of the older Samsung devices refuse to boot older images.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

  • Download the Samsung USB Drivers from our USB Driver page and install them on your computer before you start the steps.
  • Enable the Developer Options menu from the settings on your Grand Max by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Build Number and keep tapping at least 7 times. It will tell you when the menu is unlocked.
  • Enable the USB Debugging Mode from the Developer Options menu by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.

HOW TO ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY GRAND MAX RUNNING ANDROID 5.1.1 LOLLIPOP

  1. Download the updated CF-Auto-Root package for the Grand Max from this link.
  2. Download the Odin 3.09 flashing tool to from this link.
  3. Right-click the mouse over the files when you have them on the desktop and pick the “extract here” option from the menu.
  4. Double-click your Odin executable file that’s on the desktop and wait for the Odin app to open on the computer.
  5. Turn off the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max smartphone and reboot it up in download mode.
  6. Connect the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max device to the computer with the USB cable you use for charging the battery.
  7. Click the PDA or AP button and browse the desktop location for the tar.md5 file that you extracted earlier.
  8. Do not touch any of the default settings from the Odin user-interface.
  9. Click the Start button and wait for the rooting to complete.
  10. Watch the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max’s display for when it tells you the device is about to reboot and wait for it to reboot in recovery mode — it does this automatically.

You need to have the device in recovery mode for the rooting to work. Those who do not see their device reboot in recovery mode must boot it in recovery mode manually. You can turn it off and boot it up by holding the Volume Up + Home + Power to get in the recovery mode you need.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is now rooted and you can immediately head over to the Google Play Store and start installing any apps that require that same root access to run. The CF-Auto-Root tool installed and enabled SuperSU on your device — you can see it now as an application available from your app drawer. That same SuperSU is going to grant the rooting permissions to any app that requests the same. In addition to granting access to apps, it is going to block any apps that could be malware. Only apps you grant access to the internal system can get through.
