These are the guidelines to root the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900T smartphone running on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update by using the Odin flash tool, a Windows PC and Chainfire’s SuperSU.

REQUIREMENTS

• The guide below is pieced together for the T-Mobile variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone with the model number SM-G900T. You can check out what your model number is by tapping on the S5’s Menu > Settings > About Device > Model Number.
• The CF-Root-Tool you are using in this guide is working based on the LMY47X.G900TUVS1FOJ4 firmware — an update for some regions that is part of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. You do not need to be running that same firmware on your device to use the guide to root your device. You just need to use it as an indicator because some Samsung devices do not boot the older images.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

• Download the Samsung USB Drivers from the USB Driver page and have them installed on your Windows computer before you start the guide.
• You may need to unlock the hidden Developer Options menu on your Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Build Number 7 times.
• Open the Developer Options by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options and turn on the USB Debugging Mode.

HOW TO ROOT T-MOBILE SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 SM-G900T RUNNING ANDROID 5.1.1 LOLLIPOP

1. Download the updated CF-Auto-Root package for the S5 Mini from this link.
2. Download the Odin version 3.09 from this link.
3. Extract the files on the desktop of the computer by right-clicking and choosing the “extract here” from the menu.
4. Long-press the Samsung Galaxy S5’s Power button and wait until the device turns off.
5. Reboot the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone in download mode.
6. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S5 to the computer with the USB cable.
7. Click the PDA or the AP button you can see that is available from the Odin user-interface.
8. Browse the desktop for the tar.md5 file.
9. Click the Start button and wait until Odin is done flashing your rooting file on the smartphone.
10. Look at the Samsung Galaxy’s display for when it says it is about to reboot your device and check that it does reboot to recovery mode. You must see this happen or else the root will not work.

Sometimes devices do not make it to recovery mode. For all those times you must boot to recovery manually by using the hardware keys. You can boot by pressing the Volume Up + Home + Power at the same time to reach recovery mode.
