Once you have finished installing a custom recovery on the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone you can install Chainfire’s SuperSU so your device grants those rooting permissions to the apps you need. Also, by rooting the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone you are allowing the option to install a custom ROM and custom kernel. A custom kernel is often an afterthought in the world of customizing an Android device, but they are incredibly useful if you want to overclock the internal system.

REQUIREMENTS

• You need to have installed a custom recovery on the Samsung Galaxy A5 SM-A510 before you can root the device using the SuperSU given in this guide. You can learn how to install TWRP Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy A5 SM-A510 if you don’t have one already and then come back and continue with this guide.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

• Download the Samsung USB Drivers for the Samsung Galaxy A5 and install them on your computer before you get started with the steps. Those same Samsung drivers are going to help your device connect with the Odin flashing tool.
• You are voiding the Samsung warranty when you choose to root the Galaxy A5 smartphone. Furthermore, rooting using this guide will trip Knox, so any device with Knox security will not get the warranty back by unrooting. Those of you looking for unrooting help can down load the stock ROM for your model number from the Sam Mobile website and flash it with the same Odin flashing tool.

HOW TO ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY A5 SM-A510 (2016)

1. Download the SuperSU for the Samsung Galaxy A5 from this link.
2. Connect the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone to the computer — it can be any computer, not just a Windows PC this time.
3. Copy the SuperSU zip file over to the root of the internal storage SD card for your Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone.
4. Unplug the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone from the computer and the USB cable once you have the file in the SD card.
5. Boot the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone to recovery mode. You should be able to find recovery by turning it off first and booting it up by holding the Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
6. Select the ‘Backup’ option from the TWRP menu and take a NANDroid Backup just in case you want to restore it later.
7. Select the ‘Install’ option and browse the SD card for the SuperSU file you put on the internal storage SD card earlier.
8. Swipe to confirm you do want to install the SuperSU file when it says to do so on the display.
9. Select the ‘Reboot System’ option from the main recovery menu once the SuperSU is installed on your device.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone will now reboot in normal mode and be in the same mode you normally use when you are on the device every other day. You can navigate to the app drawer and you should find the SuperSU app there — that’s the application you just installed from your custom recovery and you need it there on your device all the time until you want to unroot the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone.
