Being able to convert an image into another format is extremely helpful. I have tried a lot of different programs, but their conversion doesn’t always work. At least, it doesn’t work for the files that I really need to convert. Well, that doesn’t look like it is going to be a problem anymore thanks to Img2X.
WHAT IS IT AND WHAT DOES IT DO
Main Functionality
Simply put, Img2X is an advanced image converting tool. Although the program does not hold your hand through the process, it is able to successfully convert images between formats. For example, it can convert ICO to GIF images and vice versa.
Pros
- Converts any of the following input formats: BMP, ICO, GIF, JPG/JPEG, PNG, PBM, PGM, PPM, TIFF, XBM, XPM, SVG, and TGA
- Supports “any” output format
- Simple interface makes it easy to use (once you understand how to use the program)
- Small program that does not hog up a lot of computer resources
Cons
- Must convert images one at a time; won’t do batch conversions
- Figuring out how to use this program can be challenging at first, and the program’s help file offers little-to-no helpful information
Discussion
Once again, we have a program here without a lot of pros or cons. This is because the program does one thing, and that is convert images. It does this process rather well after you figure out how to use the program. It is going to take some trial and error, because the program offers you very little “hand holding”.
In fact, that brings me to the biggest problem I had with the program, and that was figuring out how to use it. If you click on the program’s “Help” file, it simply tells you that “Engine 1 and Engine 2 are completely different”, and you should choose the right one to complete your task…oh gee thanks. If I knew which one was right, I wouldn’t have clicked on “Help” in the first place.
That being said, it really won’t take you very long to figure out how to use the program. You simply open the file that you want to convert, pick an engine (I have absolute no clue what are the differences between the two engines), and then save it as the file type you want. You have to be sure to include the image extension of the format your desire in the file name when saving.
While using this program, I was successfully able to convert GIF, JPEG, and PNG files; it was able to successfully convert every picture type I tried. Aside from what I tested, this program supports the conversions of BMP, ICO, PBM, PGM, PPM, TIFF, XBM, XPM, SVG, and TGA images. For output, you can basically set the images to whatever format you want.
Overall, the program is very easy to use (once you get beyond figuring out how to use it), and it won’t take up a lot of your computer’s resources. It is a very lightweight program and a shame that it had to be installed. This is a program I would like a lot more if it was portable.

Img2X is a great image converter. That is all it does, but that is not really a bad thing. If you have a picture type that you want to convert to a different format, this program will do it for you.
