    Following 1929′s Stock Market crash and the Great Depression, the U.S. under President FDR, created the Works Project Administration (WPA) circa 1935 to help put unemployed workers back to work. One of the Projects employed artists of all kinds, including muralists and mosaicists. Many of NY’s subways, public buildings, post offices and even some banks, etc., still have many of them.
