How to download and install iOS 9 final for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch [Tip]

iOS 9The official iOS 9 IPSW files are now available to download direct to your computer. Apple has made the firmware files for iOS 9 available so people can restore their devices through iTunes. This marks the final version of iOS 9 which is different from any of the other beta versions you might have installed before it. A beta version will still have many of the bugs a final version has ironed out. If you are one of the people who did install the recent beta 3 build, or any of the other beta build before it, you shouldn’t let that stop you from giving this final version a go. Here’s everything you need to know to install iOS 9 final on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

REQUIREMENTS

  • The following guide only works for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S iPad and iPod touch.
  • If your device wasn’t new enough to run the recent iOS 8 software updates, you cannot run iOS 9 either. You are stuck without any software updates until you update your device with something more recent.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL IOS 9 FINAL ON IPHONE, IPAD AND IPOD TOUCH

  1. Make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes. Download and install it if you aren’t already.
  2. Download the iOS 9 final IPSW file that’s right for your device. (Links coming later today)
  3. Navigate to the Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone and toggle the feature to the off position. It’s been known to interfere with the proceedings.
  4. Connect the iDevice to the computer and launch iTunes.
  5. Click the ‘Summary’ tab in the left panel from iTunes and highlight your device.
  6. Hold down the Shift key (Windows) or the Alt key (Mac) and click the ‘Restore’ option.
  7. Browse the computer for the IPSW file you prepared earlier as soon as iTunes prompts you to do so.
  8. The iOS 9 final IPSW will now get flashed on your device.

Those of you not interested in installing the IPSW file manually can navigate to the Settings app on your Apple mobile device> General> Software Update> and the software will check for the update. Once the OTA is ready for your device, it will let you know. Keep trying by following the same steps if yours isn’t ready yet. It will be available over the next few days.
