If thought the Galaxy Note was too big to be considered a phone anymore, wait till you get your hands on this. The Huawei Ascend Mate, a device that bests the Note by almost 6 inches at 6.1 inches total — and perhaps most interestingly, has so far been only called a phone. Not a small tablet, or even a hybrid phablet label for this one yet, it looks like they want this one to just be one very big phone.

The device was spotted being shown by Richard Yu, one of the company’s executives, at a Huawei store in Guangzhou despite the fact the phone hasn’t been formally revealed yet. The phone is said to with a very obvious 6.1 inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM and 1.8GHz quad-core processor. Yu then told fans on Sina Weibo (China’s version of Twitter), that specs are not yet final and to wait until CES for more information.

That thing is almost as big as my Kindle Fire! Way too big for a dedicated phone, IMO.

@Seamus McSeamus: Definitely way too big. Tablet or phone, nobody will know the difference anymore if they keep this up!

i was holding note II today in a store, somehow i started getting inclined toward phablets after seeing this since i can carry it anywhere, anytime, and anyhow (except for use in a flight), and readability (including comics) still exists good. i need to see this guy or samsung 6.3″ note III (rumor) before i can say it is too big.
