Father buys refurbished Nintendo 3DS for son, discovers porn on device

Many kids received new game systems this past Christmas morning, but one kid got another surprise along with his Nintendo 3DS — porn. When Mark Giles from Colorado purchased this gift for his son, this was definitely something he didn’t expect his son to see.

How did this happen? It looks like it might have been just a good old fashioned slip-up at GameStop’s refurbishment facility in Texas. Wiping personal data off of devices is supposedly one of the very first tasks performed by workers in the facility, so it might be safe to say that somebody just didn’t do their job right.

GameStop apologized to the Giles family by giving them a brand-new 3DS along with some games. Mark Giles tells KUSA 9News, “You can’t unsee this. He’s 5 years old. Maybe when he’s 18 or 20, maybe he won’t know anything about it, but he’s not going to forget about this tomorrow.”

Why did it happen to be the one 3DS with porn in it, that would ultimately end up with a five-year old kid? Who knows, but I’m sure GameStop learned a very important lesson here:

Be sure to wipe the data on refurbished game consoles — there might be porn in it.

    1. Who was the young lad that sold his 3DS to Gamestop with porn on it?

    2. How do you get porn on a 3DS or similar device?

    3. The 5 year old will be OK. If he was twice his age, I would be worried.
