What is a favorite past time of dictators? Spending money (that often doesn’t belong to them). From king-dictators to military-dictators and every other type of dictator in between, dictators like building and buying things. What did royalty of medieval Europe like building? Grand castles.
We have already seen a few European castle. Today I have to share yet another one — Schwerin Castle of Schwerin, Germany. Check it out:
Can’t you just imagine a dragon flying overhead and burning this to a crisp?
Oh, and by the way, while there are reports of a ‘Schwerin Castle’ since the 10th century, the castle you see in the above photo was built in the 19th century. So it isn’t from the medieval ages, but still nonetheless an awesome sight.

I’m sorry, but this castle is not medeival at all. It’s pure 19th century pseudo-medieval-renaissance architectur including some little parts of 16th and 17th centuries buildings.
Here’s an image to think about:

@bernd:
I thought you were joking about 19th century, but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwerin_Castle clearly says you are accurate!
It is none-the-less, a very pretty castle. However, in the days of howitzers and aircraft, it reminds me of the old adage about ‘generals fighting the last war’.
@bernd: I wasn’t trying to say this castle is medieval. That was my poor attempt at an introduction to castles in general :-P In any case, you are right and wrong. This particular castle was built/refurbished in the 19th and 20th century but there are reports of a castle in that location since the 10th century.
I’ll update the article to clarify — thanks!
Sababurg_German Castle.
This castle is said to be the fabled castle of Grimms’ Fairy Tale, “Sleeping Beauty”.
