At its press conference today, Motorola announced three new Android handsets: Droid RAZR M, Droid RAZR HD, and Droid RAZR Maxx HD. For those of your familiar with Moto, you will remember the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZZR Maxx from last year. The Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR Maxx HD are the predecessors to those devices, and they have a new little brother joining them this time around.
Motorola is treating these three devices as a “trilogy” because of how similar they are. All three devices have the following:
- 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor
- 1GB RAM
- Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
- LTE connectivity with GSM global roaming
- 8 MP front camera (with flash)
- Front camera (VGA for RAZR M and 1.3 MP for RAZR HD and RAZR Maxx HD)
- NFC
- Dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth 4.0
- A-GPS, GPS, E-Compass, and GLONASS
The difference between the devices come in the form of displays, internal storage, and battery.
The Droid RAZR M, which can be considered to be a mid-range device when compared to the other two, has a 960 x 540 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Advanced display with 8GB internal storage (supports up to 32GB microSD) and 2,000mAh battery. On the other hand, both the Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR Maxx HD sport a 1,280 x 720 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display. In addition to the display, the Droid RAZR HD has 16GB internal storage (supports up to 32GB microSD) and 2,530mAh battery. The Droid RAZR Maxx HD has 32GB internal storage (supports up to 32GB microSD) and 3,300mAh battery.
The Droid RAZR M and Droid RAZR HD come in white and black while the Droid RAZR Maxx HD comes in black only. All three devices have their displays protected by Corning Gorilla Glass display and are made of DuPont KEVLAR fiber with “water-repellent nanocoating”.
For outside the United States pricing and availability of these handsets has not been revealed, if they will be sold outside the USA at all. In the United States, all three devices are destined for Verizon Wireless. The Droid RAZR M is currently available for pre-order for $99 (after $50 mail-in-rebate) with two-year contract; it will be sold starting September 13, 2012. While the Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR Maxx HD pricing and availability has not been detailed, Motorola promises both will hit shelves before the holidays.
