Back in April dotTechies received a real treat in the form of a freebie-promotion of East-Tec Eraser 2008. Now, 8 months later, we bring you something similar, yet better: a freebie-promotion of East-Tec Eraser 2009!
As mentioned in my earlier article on East-Tec Eraser, East-Tec Eraser is a program that allows you to securely delete files, data and user activity from your computer. You see usually when you delete something on your computer, it is not truly "deleted" in the sense that there are ways for the data to be retrieved. East-Tec Eraser allows you to delete files/data/user activity using secure erasing methods that make it near impossible for others to retrieve what you deleted.
The best way I would describe East-Tec Eraser is CCleaner + Heidi's Eraser into one program. With East-Tec Eraser not only can you securely delete individual files and folders but you can also protect your privacy by securely deleting your Windows (applications/programs, email, P2P, etc.) data and Internet (almost all browsers are supported - including Chrome and Opera) activity. To help you with the former task, East-Tec Eraser has an easy to use interface where you can add multiple files and folders at once to delete; you also have the ability to add entries in your right click context menu. To help you with the later task, East-Tec Eraser has a built in application detector that will detect all the possible applications that it can erase the activity history from automatically; if East-Tec Eraser does not find a particular application that you use, you have the ability to add custom programs (by designating files, folders or registry entries) to delete the history from.
East-Tec Eraser boasts the ability to erase anything using methods from a normal erase to a Gutmann wipe (35 pass) and everything in between, including methods that match and surpass US Department of Defense 5220.22-M standards. Heck if you don't like any pre-configured secure erasing methods you have the ability to create/define your own also (if you custom created method to securely erase files/data becomes popular and you become rich and famous, I expect royalties).
Additionally, you can use East-Tec to securely erase files/data/user activity that you previously deleted or use the built in disk wiper to securely wipe any hard drives (internal or external - including USB/flash drives) or select partitions.
Of course, the above four paragraph description does not do full justice to East-Tec Eraser because it still has more features I did not mention. Yet, I am sure you get the point: East-Tec Eraser is awesome.
According to the developer, the major changes from East-Tec Eraser 2008 -> East-Tec Eraser 2009 are:
- A new redesigned interface: a new graphical look that will improve your experience while using our product.
- New and updated applications supported in Privacy Guard: the most popular web browsers (Mozilla Firefox 3.1, Opera 9.6), Yahoo Messenger 9.0, Zone Alarm Pro 8, OpenOffice 3, Avira AntiVir Personal Edition, Blubster 3, iTunes 8 and QuickTime 7.5, Adobe Media Player 1.1, Safari 3.2 and other applications.
- Improvements in Risk Monitor: you can see detailed information about each risk.
Before I tell you how to get East-Tec Eraser 2009 for free, let me remind everyone if you enjoy East-Tec Eraser, consider upgrading to the latest East-Tec Eraser 2010; via dotTech you can get East-Tec Eraser 2010 with one year of free updates for $19.95 USD single PC or $24.94 USD for two PCs (dotTech gets no commission or a cut of the sale). This is a huge discount from the normal price of $49.95.
According to the developer, the major improvements from East-Tec Eraser 2009 -> East-Tec Eraser 2010 are:
- Windows 7 compatibility
- Updated sensitive areas in Privacy Guard, such as Internet Explorer 8, Windows Media Player 12 Beta, Opera 10, Google Chrome 3, Safari 4, Norton Antivirus 2010, Norton Internet Security 2010, Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, Adobe Photoshop CS4, Clear File Search MRU History (Windows 7) and more.
- Improved logging (reporting) options
So, to get East-Tec Eraser 2009 for free, follow these simple directions:
Version being given out for free: v9.5.1.109

How big is this software? I don’t want a huge beast program taking up power and space that only deletes files.
Thanks for another great freebie and review, Ashraf!
Ashraf
@Refpeuk: ~8 MB download size.
You are welcome =).
Maurizio
I do thank you for this another great progra.
Ciao
Maurizio from Italy

Hey Ashraf!!
Just a question for you: if, as you said, “East-Tec Eraser 2009″ is CCleaner + Heidi’s Eraser into one program, does this mean that this freebie can replace once and for all CCleaner ?
OutDesigns
You’re the man!. . . a huge “thank you” as always.
Sandeep
Earlier i got East-Tech Eraser 2008 from dottech which is the only program i use for deleting files. It’s really great.
Thanks Ashraf for giving this software update.
Ashraf
@Maurizio: You are welcome =).
@giovanni: I have not sat down and explicitly compared CCleaner vs East-Tec Eraser 2009 so I can’t say; I can say though on a personal level, I still use CCleaner for my privacy cleaning while using East-Tec Eraser for my secure deletion needs. Also, keep in mind CCleaner has registry cleaning and basic startup management which is not available in East-Tec Eraser 2009.
When I say “The best way I would describe East-Tec Eraser is CCleaner + Heidi’s Eraser into one program.” I don’t mean literally all the features of CCleaner and Heidi’s Eraser are combined together in East-Tec Eraser. I mean it figuratively to give everyone a basic image of what East-Tec Eraser can do. I don’t think anything will ever truly replace CCleaner.
@OutDesigns: You are welcome =).
@Sandeep: You are welcome =).
Albi
A huge thank you for these great offers.
Cheers
Refpeuk
@Ashraf: Thanks for the clarification Ashraf. Another wonderful freebie discovered once again. Where do you find out about all these?
Ashraf
@Albi: You are welcome =).
@Refpeuk: Places =). If you read the “via” or “thanks” I have at the end of some posts, you can quickly learn of a lot my sources. For other posts, that don’t have a “via” or “thanks”, I am sure you can pickup a pattern as to which website the promotion is going on.
As for this particular promotion, East-Tec Eraser 2009, I did not find it anywhere. It is a dotTech promotion =).
Alalata
Thanks Ashraf for this Great freebie.
smokexx
Now its time to replace the old one. Thank you very much Ashraf and East-Tec guys.
Rocky
I already have CCleaner and now I can add this to my arsenal. Download, install and key insertion all worked smooth. Thanks.
nebulus
Ashraf, thanks a lot for this :)
zach
I use something simply called eraser. It seems to work well and you can also choose from many different scripts with the option to create your own. It also lets you verify the erase process by showing you the code for the file being erased after every pass. The website is http://heidi.ie/eraser/ is if anyone is interested.

I just saw that one of the sites listed on the right as a dotTech friend is promoting this without the attribution you requested. http://www.blogsolute.com/east-tec-eraser-2009-serial-free-license-key-download/4640/
Is that kosher?
Melatonin
How long is this promotion going to last? and how soon do we have to install it in order to use the product key given? I plan on installing Windows 7 over this Christmas break and would love this addition, yet I wont have time for another week or so…
Ashraf
@Alalata: You are welcome =).
@smokexx: You are welcome =).
@Rocky: You are welcome =).
@zach: Heidi’s Eraser is definitely a great program.
@Ozzie: That actually is of a different East-Tec Eraser 2009 promotion. Unfortunately this time around it seems like Softpedia and dotTech are running the same – yet separate – promotions as opposed to dotTech being the only one to run it like with 2008. So I can’t really say much. Although as a “dotTech Friend” Rohit could have been more thoughtful and linked to this promotion instead of Softpedia’s especially since he took the liberty of copying some of my article verbatim:
On the bright side, Softpedia’s promotion ends in January while dotTech’s will not.
Ozzie
@Ashraf: Gotcha.
Corno
Do I understand rightly that neither Windows 7, nor Opera 10 are supported? If so, thanks for the offer, and thumbs up for your work, but I will have to pass this one today.
Ashraf
@Corno: Officially you are right, no they are not supported.
However, it seems to work on Win7. Also, if you think about it, unless Opera changed where they store your private data, i.e. cookies cache and the like, if this supports an older version of Opera, like 9.x which it does, it will work with Opera 10 also.
Raven
Nice software! Thank you Ashraf.
hunter
merry christmas to all
and my best wishes for the new year
RoseD1st
Well I trust your opinion Ashraf so Ill give this a try,thank you :^)
Ramesh
Ashraf does East-Tec Eraser 2009 also erase private browsing tracks? Browsers claim that private browsing tracks are not recorded by them. In practical terms that data also can be recorded. So does this remove those tracks as well
Ramesh
@Ramesh:
John
This is the same program as Cyberscrub, which I have used for years. I did the upgrade to the 2010 version for $20 and am quite happy with the performance with Windows 7. Thanks Ashraf.
buyerbeware
i guess i’m the stupidest techie on the planet because i cannot find the link to the program. nice to know how to get it, but there is no it to get.
buyerbeware
never mind. i found it and it is installed successfully. thanx
Bruce
Does this erase residual data that still remains in unused portions of the disc space? I couldn’t find mention of this capability in the various descriptions I looked at on the Web, but this is listed as a capability in the 2010 version.
Jon
This software is great! You rarely get privacy software at give aways. Thanks!
Br0101
Thank You :)
