Hot on the heels of a recent Windows Blue rumor comes another rumor: the impending death of Windows RT.
As I’m sure most of you know by now, Windows RT is the tablet-specific version of Windows 8 that runs on ARM processors and can only run Windows RT-specific apps from Windows Store (not all Windows programs). Maybe it was price. Maybe it was confusion. Mybe it was simply a bad product. Whatever the reason may be, Windows RT has not yet been received well by the masses. Quoting “sources from the upstream supply chain”, DigiTimes is reporting that, because of this lack of enthusiasm on the part of consumers, Microsoft is now planning on killing off Windows RT and merging it into Windows Blue.
It is unclear if this means Windows on ARM will exist but just without a different name or if Windows on ARM is dead for good. One thing is for sure; less choice, even confusing choice, is probably not so good for consumers. Let’s see what happens.
