The company that has been in charge of the Oculus Rift, Oculus VR, are set on coming out with an Android-compatible version of the device.

When you think about the Oculus Rift, it’s definitely brings to mind some classic hardcore science fiction stories, and definitely tells you we are living in the future. Time will tell if this headset really takes off and it would be nice to see a version that is also lighter, though there have been reports that the device is lighter than people expect it to be.

Designing a version for the Android is a smart move since mobile gaming is constantly becoming more and more popular, and the Android version would also most likely be compatible with the Ooya, the Android gaming device, which hopefully will find a big enough market.

Oculus VR’s CEO, Brendan Iribe, talked more about this at the GamesBeat 2013 conference. “We have some exciting plans on the mobile VR side as [on] the PC VR side,” he said. “We’re really looking at hitting the consumer market. We’re very excited about what we’re seeing.”

It isn’t clear when the Android-compatible version will be out. More details about the Oculus Rift can be seen at their site here.
