About Android Apps of the Day

Android has over 450,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our Android Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! WiFi Overview 360

WiFi Overview 360 is a WiFi analysis tool. The goal of WiFi Overview 360 is to give users a 360 degrees view of WiFi connections including information such as access point name (SSID), signal strength, channel number, and encryption. Once you are connected to a WiFi connection, you can get information such as BSSID, MAC, connection speed and strength, frequency, channel, IP, and more. In addition to showing information about available WiFi connections, there is a graph that shows signal strength of all nearby connections.

Probably the most interesting features of WiFi Overview 360 are the “Channel Check” and “Channel Radar” tabs which allow you to view which WiFi channels are the most congested and which are the least congested, allowing you to switch your WiFi router to a channel which has the least traffic for the best performance.

WiFi Overview 360 is free and has all the features mentioned above (plus some more such as widgets). WiFi Overview 360 Pro is paid but ads-free and has more widgets.

Smart Shortcuts

Billed as an app that allows you to organize home screen icons using “shortcuts”, Smart Shortcuts is essentially an apps organizer that puts apps in folders. With Smart Shortcuts users create “categories” and then “tag” apps into these categories (there are six categories created by default with users having the option to add more categories as desired). Once you have tagged all the apps desired to their respective categories, you either use 1×1 widgets or shortcuts to place each category on your home screen. Once a category has been placed on the home screen, clicking on the category icon shows a popup which displays all the apps that were tagged to the respective category. You can always go back into Smart Shortcuts and customize apps and categories as desired.
