About Android Apps of the Day

Android has over 450,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our Android Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! Swiped

There are many jewels/gems games on Android. Swiped is another such gems game. However, it is a gems game with a twist. With typical gems game you par levels by finding all 3+ groupings of similar gems that are to the left, right, top, or bottom of each other. Swiped changes this up by allowing users to collect any 2+ groupings of similar gems that touch in any direction, may that be left, right, top, bottom or diagonal. The more gems you collect in one swipe, the more points you get with the kicker being you get negative points if you collect a group of 2 gems; so it goes without saying while you can collect a group of 2 gems, it is best to try to collect 3 or more.

Swiped comes with five different types of game play. There is ‘Classic’ in which you must get a certain amount of points in a certain amount of time for each levels; there is ‘Gem Mania’ where the goal of each stage is to collect X number of specific gems; there is ‘Time Attack’ in which you have 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes (you pick how long) to score as many points as you can; there is ‘Score Panic’ in which each stage you must collect X amount of gems but as each second passes you lose points; and there is ‘Continuous’ in which you just swipe until your heart is content.

GasBuddy

GasBuddy is the official Android app for GasBuddy.com. Using GasBuddy you find gas stations by city or zip code (GasBuddy works in USA and Canada only — sorry everyone else) or by your current location. Found gas stations are listed by lowest to highest price and separated by ‘Regular’, ‘Midgrade’, ‘Premium’, and ‘Diesel’ fuel type. You can view gas stations in a list or on a map; gas stations can be sorted by distance to you; and there are filtering capabilities to show/not gas stations of specific companies, only showing gas stations that are withing X miles of your current location, and choosing a range for price. If you find a gas station you like, clicking on it gives you the ability to get directions to that gas station.

If you decide to sign up for a GasBuddy account (registration is free and optional), every time you report a price at a gas station, you are given points that go towards giveaways, such as a weekly $250 gas gift card giveaway.

Honey Battle – Bears vs Bees

Honey Battle – Bears vs Bees is a platform game for Android. In the game the Bear Parachute Squadron are parachutes from the sky in an attempt to take the honey from the bees. Your job is to shoot the bears out of the sky using your ‘bee cannon’ which shoots a aerial bee in the direction that you tap. If a bear lands, you lose one pot of honey. For each level you have three pots of honey and if you lose all three it is game over. To help defend your pots you can use special attacks such as ‘Bee Swarm’ and ‘Hive Armor’ and purchase power ups – such as increasing bee size or bee speed – using coins.
