Google Reader is almost gone, so the race to find a suitable alternative is on. Many folks are turning to Feedly, Flipboard, Pulse or even Digg’s new service. If this next rumor turns out to be true, some folks may soon be turning to a new reader service from Facebook. Facebook has apparently been developing a Flipboard-like news reader for mobile devices according to “people with knowledge of the project.”
It was first reported by Tom Waddington, a developer who discovered the Facebook code alluding to RSS feeds, multiple entries and a list of current subscribers. The Wall Street Journal is now backing Waddington’s claim with its recent publication.
Realistically, it makes a lot of sense for Facebook to offer a reader service especially since they introduced Home. Although, it’s unclear whether or not the Flipboard-like reader will be integrated into the native Facebook app or if it will be offered separately. I’m going to assume it’s going to be offered separately, or at least I sure hope it will. What about you?
Would you use a Facebook reader app or service in place of Google Reader? Have you found a suitable alternative? The Reader shutdown is in July, which is just around the corner. If you haven’t started looking elsewhere, you better start soon.
