Requirements
This root guide is for the HTC Butterfly S running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Take note this will wipe all your files and data on your phone. Proceed at your own risk.
Before We Begin
Have a micro USB cable handy.
Download and install the HTC USB drivers. Do this by downloading and installing HTC Sync Manager and following the instructions. HTC can be found by going to this link.
Before this root can be accomplished, you’ll need to unlock your bootloader. As unlocking the bootloader is a process that requires you to register and login at the HTC Dev site, it’s recommended that you go to http://htcdev.com/bootloader and follow the instructions. It’s a very painless process since HTC has written very detailed instructions. Once you’ve followed the instructions on HTC Dev, return to this guide and follow the instructions to root your HTC Butterfly S.
To perform this root, we’ll need to download a few files. The first of two files that we need to download is fastboot. Download fastboot to your Desktop and extract it to a folder called fastboot. You can download fastboot by following this link.
The second file we’ll need to download is the root package. Download it to your desktop on your PC. DO NOT EXTRACT THE ROOT PACKAGE. Download the root package here.
