About Android Apps of the Day
Android has over 450,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our Android Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! Apps for June 6, 2012
UCam Ultra Camera
If your Android device has a camera, it most likely came with a camera app. However, I guarantee it didn’t come with a camera app as featured-filled as UCam.
UCam Ultra Camera is a camera app for Android. What makes UCam stand out above the crowd is the amount of features it has. Outside of the basic photo/video shooting capabilities, UCam supports multiple different types of capture modes such as Picture in Picture (snap a picture inside a picture), Background (snap photos inside a frame), Burst (snap multiple photos in quick succession), Collage (create a collage out of photos), Panorama (snap panoramas), UGif (create animated GIFs with your camera, either in photo or video mode), UPhoto (edit photos after snapping them by applying over 100 effects, graffiti, text bubbles, frames, textures, and a lot more), USpyCam (snap photos in a unique “spy” mode which makes the camera view smaller thus allowing you to “spy”), and UShare (scan QR code).
In addition to multiple different types of capture modes, UCam supports over 30 different software/hardware parameters to allow you to tweak your photos as desired; parameters such as white balance, resolution, exposure, etc.
UCam supports auto-focus, front cameras, back cameras, and flash (if applicable). There is ‘edit mode’ which sends photos to UCam’s editor (if you don’t want to use UPhoto mode), allowing you to perform tons of edits of photos as mentioned above (effects, frames, text, graffiti, textures, etc.). UCam truly is feature filled, although some may argue it is a bit too complicated for a camera app. Everyone has their specific tastes, I suppose.
UCam has three versions. There are separate free versions for phones and tablets; and there is a paid version which adds 30+ real-time effects and high performance time stamps.

Little Photo
Little Photo is a photo modification app that allows users to apply over 70 film and retouch effects to photos. In addition to the effects, Little Photo has the ability to add frames to photos; add text and draw on photos; rotate photos; and more. The best part about Little Photo is it allows users to stack effects meaning you can apply more than one effect on a photo.
Once you are happy with your photo you can either save it (photos are saved at 800px or 1024px, depending on what you set in settings) or share it via Gmail, messaging, etc.
Little Photo allows users to modify existing photos from gallery or snap new photos using the back camera.
Some critics may say Little Photo is a bit hard to use. And I would agree with them; it is a bit confusing and cumbersome. Still, the functionality of the app is very useful, especially the effects stacking feature.
Little Photo itself is a free app. However there is a paid plugin that adds more functionality such as the ability to snap photos using your front camera, modify brightness, contrast, saturation, and more.
Price: Free, $3.87
Version discovered: v6.3.1
Requires: Android 1.6 and up

Onavo Count
If you need a simple and easy to use data monitor 3G Watchdog is for you. If you need a data monitor but would like a feature filled data monitor, Onavo Count may be more your style.
Onavo Count is a data monitoring that does more than monitor data usage. Onavo Count monitors data usage, yes but it also: breaks down data usage to a per-app level, allowing you to view which apps are the ones eating the most data (most useful if you have a rogue data eating app); provides alerts and warnings at critical junctures such as when a specific app is hogging data, when you are approaching your data cap, or when you are roaming on data; provides widgets which provides you info right on your homepage about data usage, “live” data usage, and per-app data usage; has the ability to restrict specific apps to WiFi only, such as if you find a rogue data using app; provides advice on the “best value” data plan according to your carrier and data usage; and has a “crowd sourcing” feature which informs you what the Onavo community did with a certain app, such as if they uninstalled it or restricted it.

Always use your best judgement when downloading apps, such as trying trial/free versions before purchasing paid apps, if applicable.
