    Thanks for another nice tool.

But to my surprise, the zip file I got doesn’t contain any installer, instead it delivers the whole software and you have to decide where to put it and then create desired shortcuts manually.

Many thanks for the heads-up on this Ashraf — and to djhightek for tipping you off.

System analysis of the quality provided by both Everest and Belarc is incredibly useful, and although I do make use of the appropriate utility in my iObit Advanced System Care Pro (still, to me, one of the best of its kind out there) a dedicated app is always going to be superior.

I still have Belarc Adviser because of its, well, advice (!) but junked an early edition of Everest Home because ASC Pro was just as good.

To Janet: I haven’t DL’d / installed the Everest app yet but can’t for the moment see any reason to Revo my existing Belarc: the two should augment each other’s virtues (well, in theory, anyway: when I’ve played around with Everest — am ten minutes into my wait for the key from Germany — any redundancy should become apparent.)

Meantime, sincere thanks again, Ashraf, and all best to you and yours.

Whoops: meant to add. . . though I’m no fan of monopolies, nor of Google’s intrusiveness where emails are concerned, I’ve long since given up on ’special’ mailboxes for potential spam and instead use a dedicated gmail account.

In practice, I’ve found Google’s spam filtering to be excellent, and as I don’t have that particular account on a POP3 linkage, and access by webmail only, then nothing unwanted or untoward ever finishes up on my desktop — the contrary, in fact, because checking of the Gmail spam box occasionally yields supplier offers that represent excellent value.

Oh, just another PS (God, I’m getting old, keep remembering things I should’ve said but didn’t. . . doh!) once again, Gigaget triumphed as my downloader: the Everest download rocketed through.

After six months’ regular use of Gigaget, I can’t recommend it too highly: outstanding must-have freeware!

    Hello Ash :D

    Nice! ;-)
Remember this critter from the days of Aida …

Have the same query as Janet, how do you compare to Belarc and w Topala’s SIW?

In it’s time, Aida was the top of the crop.
But since, no idea what the new devs have been doing …
    What says you? :)

    GG spam is actually good!

Didn’t quite get what you meant about ASC.
It has similar functions to Everest/SIW/Belarc?
Tell me more, I don’t have/know that soft.

I’ll now go look into that Gigathingy of yours :D:D

    Hi Gang:

Sorry to have been off-line for so long.

Peace: apologies for not clarifying this! Advanced System Care PRO from IObit really is first-rate. I’m using the latest update version and it’s as rock solid and sensitive as ever — and as trustworthy as ever, too.

If you go to this link in dottech:

    http://dottech.org/freebies/dottech-exclusives/4945

and scroll down to Ashraf’s post at #4, all will be revealed.

And I confirm that the code Raymond very kindly provided does still work (!) but take care to follow the advice given by Raymond about installation.

Having road-tested all the various other utility suites on offer over the years, I’ve always gone back to IObit’s product: never had a problem yet with it and the company really is a pedigree outfit.

Tortuga: well, I’m running GigaGet with IE, but from what I’ve heard from other users, the app should work fine with other browsers. (Whoops: I’ve just seen Ozzie’s post — so there ya go!)

    FINALLY. . .

Now I’m on, could I just say a HUGE thankyou to DJHIGHTEK.

Thanks are due not only for alerting Ashraf to the Everest DL, but also for the generous post made in today’s forum in respect of Portrait Professional and StudioLine Photo Classic 3.

Both are truly superb apps, though in terms of my own user preferences (because I work with PhotoShop a lot) then Portrait Professional really is a Godsend — I know, I’ve been playing with it for hours.

Before anyone asks: no, it isn’t the latest version, but it’s still astonishingly good — and, if anyone here remembers, was the basis of numerous Press reports and even on BBC TV when it first launched.

    The developer’s website explains all:

    http://www.portraitprofessional.com/

As for the delightful PhotoClassic 3, please check djhightek’s latest advice on the forum, otherwise like me you may inadvertently finish up with the German language version rather than US / UK English.

@Farrukh: Wasalaam. Ya I was surprised myself. The good thing is, though, “uninstalling” the program will be easy because all you have to do is delete the files.

@Janet: Yes Mailinator seems to be working now. As for Belarc vs EVEREST: to be honest I am not a too frequent user of either program (although I know both programs are great) so I can’t give you a clear answer. However MikeR seems to have all the answers on this one =).

@Tortuga: Please see above what I just told Janet about Belarc vs EVEREST.

@Bella: Nothing as far as I can tell. I believe you just need to wait to recieve the registration code in your e-mail.

@J. L.: v4.6 does not support Win7. The newer versions do though.

@Al Hall: Get it yet? If not I will allow a one-time posting of registration code in the comments (I usually disapprove and block posting of registration codes) since it seems some people are unable to receive it.

    Ashraf:

Re Al’s problem: I have the licence code so can post it here later if you’ve no objection.

Re earlier queries about Belarc and Everest: I think they’re still highly complementary, so intend to use both.

The only counsel I’d make with anything like this (and especially Everest in its latest form) is NOT to make benchmarking a regular habit: it’s fun now and then, and useful, but does impose demands on systems.

@Mynard: Well it doesn’t install but rather just unzips so I think it IS a portable app. Since you mention being able to take it to another computer without it asking for registration, chances are the registration information is stored directly in the program rather than the computer registry.

    @thebluejay: Welcome.
