Instagram was recently updated to include video sharing support much like Vine. During the first 24 hours of the service being available, more than 5 million videos were uploaded by active users. In fact, in just the first eight hours of being available, a full year’s worth of video content had already been uploaded- that’s 40 hours per minute.
The video sharing component was only just announced last week during a Facebook press event. With the new version of Instagram, users can upload 3 to 15 second videos, and then add the infamous hipster filters to them before sharing with the community. Essentially, the developers just cloned the same features Instagram offers for images, but with videos.
A number of well known brands already use the video sharing features, like Cisco, GE, and Gap. In addition, celebrities have jumped aboard too including Justin Bieber (you can faint now), Jimmy Fallon and more.
To reiterate, even though the video sharing features were just launched, Instagram users are going crazy with them. Those are some ridiculously impressive numbers- 40 hours per minute, whoa!
Here’s the announce video from Instagram.
Have you used the new version of Instagram yet?
