Air powered pants designed to boost a user’s joint power have been developed by design students of the Royal College of Art in London.
The device is still in an early prototype stage and consists of a series of air bags connected to each other and placed over a user’s legs. It was initially intended to be geared toward the assistance of elderly persons with activities such as standing up from a sitting position. It is currently powered using an air compressor but it could be modified in the future to be operated through the use of a foot pump.
The design team which consists of Tanya Chong, Junior Ngwenya, Igor Safronov and Sangwoo Park are of the opinion that their design offers a more natural experience than previous bionic legs have done.
