A Microsoft spokesperson says that the Xbox One’s controller should eventually be compatible with PCs, with Microsoft hoping to make it happen by 2014.
The Microsoft representative told VentureBeat that a few things need to be worked on before the controller could be supported by the PC:
“New wireless protocol, combined with the ability to work in ‘wired’ mode, and the addition of features like Impulse triggers, means that new software has to be written and optimized for the PC. There is also some work that we need to do to make sure that existing PC games that support the Xbox 360 controller will work with the Xbox One controller.”
If there’s one thing about the Xbox One that didn’t get any flak, it’s the controller. There’s really nothing to complain about. The Xbox 360’s controller was widely considered one of the best controllers ever made (except for that atrocious d-pad of course), and the Xbox One update looks to simply improve on that instead of changing it drastically.
The Xbox 360 controller is currently the standard controller for PC gaming. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Xbox One version takes it place in a couple of years.
