Paul Campos, who is known as “Lord Eternal”, has reportedly spent $3,999 Brazilian real, which equals out to roughly $1,697.22 USD, for a PS4. Now he is definitely a serious gamer.
According to their Sony’s Latin America General Manager, Mark Stanley explained that hefty price has been “allocated to compensate for the fees and taxes that are applied to the product during the import process.” Still, it is definitely one hell of a price for a gaming console and he admits that its “not good for our consumers, and it is not good for the PlayStation brand.” These comments were written in a post on the Brazilian PlayStation Blog and translated via Google.
He went on to write that “we will continue dialogue with government agencies to help us reduce the heavy tax burden that gamers, retailers and Sony Computer Entertainment America must pay.
Campos stands by his decision to buy the console. “I’ve been a gamer for 30 years, after all this time I am used to the prices. Unfortunately, in Brazil it has never been easy to buy games or consoles, the prices are always excessive,” he said, according to a translation by NeoGAF user Fuu. And to those that criticize him for his decision he said, “I’d say that it’s a free world, we are in a free and capitalist country. Everyone is free to buy whatever they want. If it’s on the shelf of a store, it’s for the public to purchase. It’s no big deal.”
Still, that is a hell of a lot of money to pay for a console.
