Microsoft is doing a lot of rebranding as of late. Just yesterday, the software giant rebranded SkyDrive to OneDrive, now the company has rebranded Office Web Apps to Office Online. It’s a name that makes sense since it would be a lot easier to understand. Microsoft hopes the new name would attract more users in its attack against Google Docs and similar services on the market.
Office Online allows its users to take advantage of online versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Furthermore, users will have the option to gain access to services such as Outlook.com, OneDrive, Microsoft Calendar, and the People’s app that is found on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices.
The whole thing s a big bundle of Microsoft services all combined in one place. Usually, to get access to all these services, users would be required to sign into Outlook.com, or on OneDrive.com. However, there’s another way, and it’s called Office.com. Whether or not these changes will peak user’s interest to invest time in Microsoft services is still left to be seen, but this move is a good one on Microsoft’s part.
At the end of the day, however, I still believe Microsoft cloud services eclipse that of Google Drive and Google Docs, but that’s just one mans opinion, what’s your?
