Last Sunday’s finale for HBO’s True Detective had a very large audience. Social media was filled with angry comments about being unable to watch the last episode of the critically-praised TV series, enough for the channel to issue an official response:

“Due to overwhelmingly popular demand for #TrueDetective, we’ve been made aware of an issue affecting some users. Please try again soon.”

HBO did not provide any other details regarding the outage, but the incident suggests that the service has some backend work to do. Similar outages occurred during later episodes of Game of Thrones. If HBO is gonna keep making these amazing shows, hopefully in the future they’ll make sure everybody can watch them.
