Android has over 450,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our Android Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! Apps for April 2, 2012
Akinator the Genie
Akinator is a genie that reads mind. Think of any person – real or fictional – and Akinator will guess them. What happens here is you, or someone you know, thinks of a real or fictional person/character. Then Akinator asks questions regarding that person which you must answer truthfully. Eventually, after Akinator has asked enough questions (the number of questions asked varies per attempt) it takes a stab at what person/character you are thinking of. The amazing part is that Akinator is right almost all the time. If you ever need a party trick to impress someone, Akinator is it.
Akinator comes in two versions, Akinator the Genie FREE and Akinator the Genie. Akinator the Genie FREE is free and limits you to playing a few times a day (I believe the limit is five times a day but I’m not 100% sure); Akinator the Genie costs $1.99 and can be played as many times as you want in one day.
Take note you need an active Internet connection to use Akinator.
Version discovered: v1.5
Requires: Android 2.2 and up

BlueFi Phone
BlueFi Phone allows users to talk (voice chat) with other BlueFi Phone users using local WiFi or Bluetooth. (“Local WiFi” means both users must be connected to the same WiFi; encrypted Bluetooth channels are used.) BlueFi Phone allows users to create a contacts list of other users who have BlueFi; and users can ping other contacts to see if they are available. Since BlueFi Phone uses WiFi or Bluetooth, it does not use your minutes. However, since you must be connected to the same WiFi and because of the limited range of Bluetooth, BlueFi Phone is intended for close quarter communication, such as in the same house or office, rather than being a general VoIP app.
Take note to talk over WiFi, the WiFi router must support multicast packets. This means BlueFi Phone won’t work on most public hotspots.
Version discovered: Beta

FatBooth
FatBooth is a fun little app that allows you to make people… fat. What you do with FatBooth is snap a picture using the front or back camera (or use an existing picture), set markers on the eyes, nose, and chin, and watch as FatBooth fattens the face of the person in the photo. Once a photo has been fattened, you can e-mail it, share on Facebook or Twitter, or save it to your image gallery.
Warning: Do not use on wife unless you like sleeping in the bathroom.
Version discovered: v1.5
Requires: Android 2.1 and up
Download size: 3.8 MB
dotTechies: We have tested all the apps listed above. However, Android Apps of the Day articles are not intended as “reviews” but rather as “heads-up” to help you discover new apps. Always use your best judgement when downloading apps, such as trying trial/free versions before purchasing paid apps, if applicable.
