Unfortunately for Apple, quality control on the iPhone 5 has fallen short of spectacular with iPhone 5 owners complaining of many issues ranging from scratches and scuffs on brand new phones to light leaks on screens to purple “halo” effects on photos taken with the camera. And that isn’t even counting the iOS Maps debacle. Last week we learned Apple thinks damaged new phones is normal, and this week Apple has pulled another Jobism; this time Apple wants iFans to know the purple halo effect on photos taken with the iPhone 5 camera is “normal”.
(P.S. I claim copyright on the word “Jobism”.)
For those that aren’t familiar with the issue, some iPhone 5 owners have experience a purple glow on the side of their photos when taken using the iPhone 5 camera. According to CNET, the purple glow typically happens when the light source in the surrounding environment is nearby or off frame… whatever that means.
Debby, an iPhone 5 owner, contacted AppleCare to complain about the issue and received the following response:
Our engineering team just gave me this information and we recommend that you angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures. The purple flare in the image provided is considered normal behavior for iPhone 5’s camera.
So purple glowing effect on photos is normal? Apparently it is for iPhone 5s! Halogate in 3… 2… 1…
