Norton Zone is an app that attempts to secure cloud storage and sharing due to how popular similar services are becoming. This service is great for those who like the convenience of cloud storage but don’t like the insecurity of it.
What is it and what does it do
This service is meant to provide typical cloud storage but with the peace of mind that your files will be safer due to the fact that the service is provided by a security company.
- Free 5GB of storage
- Upgrade to 10GB, 50GB, and 100GB capacities
- Backup any file
- Access files from any device or online
- Share files through personal links
- Control who can view and collaborate on your files
- Scan files for viruses and get protected with key encryption management
- Security benefits unproven and non-testable
Norton Zone is a typical cloud service that will give you all of the major benefits as other various cloud services. The aspect that makes this service more unique is that it has a Norton brand attached to it. Norton is a very popular provider of security software and is regarded in very high esteem by most of the tech world. This app will prove to be successful for precisely that reason as there are plenty of users out there that feel a little uncomfortable about cloud storage. The main boast-worthy feature is that the app will provide you with “complicated” key encryption management. This technology currently has a patent pending= for Norton.
Norton Zone will start you off with 5GB for free. Then, if you prefer, you are given the option to buy more storage, including 10GB, 50GB, and 100GB capacities. Once you get the storage you want, you are free to upload any file you want of roughly any format. You can then access all pf these files from any device that can access the internet. You are also allowed to share personal links to files and add specific users to collaborate with you on files of your choice.
While the idea of this service may be appealing to some, it has yet to be really put to the test. Additionally, I’m not sure if such a service is completely necessary at this point, which makes the service a little ahead of its time. As of right now, services like Google Drive and Dropbox don’t really have any security issues. Because of that, it’s going to take a lot of faith in order to transfer all of your files from another service, especiually considering the fact that no cloud servicer will ever be as convenient as Google Drive.
Until Norton can provide some hard proof that this service is significantly more secure than other cloud services, as well as provide a solid reason as to why this type of security is necessary in the first place, the service will fail to gain any ground whatsoever. Perhaps as technology advances, there will be a need for high-security cloud services, but at this point it is not something an average consumer is going to look extensively for.
Conclusion and download link
This service could show some potential in the future. Unfortunately, there are too many popular and reliable cloud services that will take away from Norton’s thunder. However, this service could be great for those who don’t necessarily trust the basic security of Google Drive or Dropbox. There is technically added encryption, so if security is a primary concern, then you might want to consider checking Norton’s service out.
