If you thought that bills like SOPA, PIPA, and CISPA were all behind us and the Internet was safe from prying eyes, I’ve got bad news for you — one of them is coming back. Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger and Rep. Mike Rogers of the USA are planning on re-introducing CISPA later this year, in the hopes of it going through this time.

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing & Protection Act (CISPA) would basically allow the government to ask a company to give away all the data it has collected on you. The issue people have with CISPA is because they believe that the bill’s vague terms leave plenty of room for abuse — and that it’s also a direct violation of the 4th Amendment.

So what benefit does CISPA have? Ideally, it would help prevent cyber attacks. The information sharing between companies and the government would supposedly help detect and prevent cyber attacks from happening.

The bill is planned for re-introduction later this year, and Ruppersberger is working with the White House to help it go through this time. If you want to know more about CISPA and maybe a sign a petition against it, hit up the link at the end of this article.
