Reports are beginning to surface that the late Steve Jobs wanted to build an Apple-branded car before he died. Meetings with Volkswagen reportedly took place as far back 2007 to discuss the project.
iDB notes that somewhere in the New York Times story about Apple building a smartwatch, there was actually already mention of an Apple car:
In a meeting in his office before he died, Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s co-founder and former chief executive, told John Markoff of The New York Times that if he had more energy, he would have liked to take on Detroit with an Apple car.
Also, coincidentally, Apple’s Eddy Cue, who is head of Internet Software and Services, is on the Board of Directors of Ferrari. Does of all this mean we could be seeing an iCar sometime soon? Probably not. But after a smartwatch, and maybe a television set, who knows what they’ll make next.
One thing I definitely know, however, is that an Apple-branded car would have a really awesome new car smell.
