If you haven’t already noticed, MWC is currently underway at Barcelona for the next few days and we’re seeing A LOT of tablets. But in the now-flooded market of touchscreen tablets, one sticks out as being one of the more lust-worthy devices of the show.
Not only is the Sony Xperia Tablet Z the “slimmest tablet in the world,” it might also be the sexiest. Sony has gone for a more simple but sleek design approach for the device, and it looks like it was the right move. The Xperia Tablet Z is thinner than the iPad, and packs a Bravia-engine powered 10.1-inch 1920×1200 display — making it a great device to look at.
The device is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, and a 6,000mAh battery. It also has a 8.1-megapixel camera on the back and 2-megapixel camera on the front, as well as NFC, four speakers, and PlayStation certification. It’ll come in 16GB, 32GB or a 64GB WiFi version. Memory is expandable through its microSD slot up to 64GB. While it will initially come with Android 4.1.2, Sony is working on an update for 4.2. Not that will matter much, as it is using Sony’s skin anyway.
One of the cooler and more unique features of the Tablet Z is that it is actually waterproof. You won’t be making any deep dives with the device, but the fact that it can be submerged in up to 3 feet of water for a whole 30 minutes is pretty impressive.
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z will cost $499 for the 16GB version and $599 for the 32GB version. It’s due to launch in Q2 of this year.
The Tablet Z: The best bathroom tablet on the market for 2013. I’m calling it now.
