iPhone thefts are an increasingly alarming problem in big cities, with many people getting their smartphones ripped straight from their hands while waiting at bus stops or sitting on the subway, and while people have come with ways to locate phones after they’ve been stolen (such as software like Find My Phone), there isn’t really a great method for ensuring they aren’t taken in the first place. Until now, that is.
Now, iPhone users can purchase an Indiegogo-funded phone case called the Yellow Jacket that is really less of a phone case and more of a stun gun that shoots out 650,000 volts of electricity.
People seen using their iPhones in public are at an increased risk of being mugged, so the Yellow Jacket simply puts their phone inside a weapon designed to ward off any potential criminals, or at least make them wish they’d never tried to mug someone in the first place.
The Yellow Jacket is also fashionable (kind of), coming in black, pink, white and yellow. Unfortunately, the current models only fit the iPhone 4 and 4S, but a handful of new colors, as well as iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 cases, are already available for preorder.
Yellow Jackets are currently priced at $139, but for people interested in buying them, it is important to first look up the laws about stun guns where they live, as they aren’t permitted everywhere.
