$2,400 ‘Introduction to Linux’ class will be free online for everyone later this year

If there was a good time to learn the ins and outs of Linux, this summer might be the best opportunity. The Linux Foundation, in a partnership with non-profit learning site edX, have worked together to make its “Introduction to Linux” class free and open to all during third quarter of 2014. The class normally costs $2,400.

This will be the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) from the Linux Foundation, and if this goes smoothly, they may consider making more courses available for free on edX. There are no prerequisites and no limits on enrollment for the introductory class. Students can also choose if they’d like to audit the course, gaining access to all the learning materials but not committing to tests or assignments, or they can opt for a certificate of completion, also free.

If you’d like to learn more about the class and sign up, you can head on over to the official page on edX.
