South Korea declares war against Internet porn

Pornography is illegal in South Korea. Inevitably, savvy Internet-users find ways to go around governmental blocks, in this case to acquire or view said pornography. South Korea’s solution? Destroy all the porn in an all-out war!

The Associated Press reports that officials in South Korea have decided to outsource an effort to eliminate all the porn that they can find. The interesting group responsible for this are called ‘The Nuri Cops’, literally meaning “net cops”. They are composed of nearly 800 volunteers who help government censors by scouting the web for pornography in their spare time. (Best. Job. Ever.)

Moon Tae-hwa, one of the volunteers, compares it to “shoveling snow in a blizzard.” I’m sure he’s right.

South Korea President, Lee Myung-bak, believes that obscene materials such as porn are “one cause inciting sex crimes.” But my first thought is, doesn’t this have the potential to increase sex crimes; how many otherwise jack-off-to-porn guys are now loose on the street? It’s a tough line to walk, that’s for sure.

on the contrary, obscene materials such as p0rn0 are one cause that mitigates sex crime, IMHO. if you don’t relieve yourself by watching graphics, you will possibly try some other ways such as clandestine touch on a lass’s a$$ in a crowded bus.

I live in Korea and I can tell you that some of the sites I used to visit for “research purposes” have stop loading. Instead a warning page appears. I don’t read Korean so I am not sure what it say. Check out this link… http://warning.or.kr/

I think things run in cycles. Once they get bored with this they will move on to some thing else.
