Porn is probably the most viewed content on the Internet. Admit it; you’ve likely viewed some porn video or image at least once in the last 12 hours or less, don’t be shy now. If for some reason you have viewed porn content quite a few times in the last 12 hours, you’ve likely viewed either porn on an American server or a naked guy or gal digitally stored in the Netherlands.
According to data accumulated by Paul Walsh, 480 million pornography web pages are hosted in the United States, which is roughly 60 percent of the world’s Internet porn (or at least 60 percent of the porn surveyed in this study — it isn’t quite yet known how much total porn is out there in the world). This comes as no surprise; we’ve long known that America is the porn capital of the world, though with many porn viewers taking a liking to Asian porn, America might not stay on top forever.
In second place, we have the Netherlands, a country with just about 17 million citizens, yet this country is host to over 187 million porn related web pages. Let’s look at the numbers again folks; 17 million citizens, 187 million porn websites hosted. Allow that to sink in for a while.
The country in third place with 52 million porn websites is the United Kingdom. We expected the Brits to be in second place, but it seems getting drunk and tuning into the English Premiere League every week is far more important than watching Ron Jeremy perform. I’d like to say I agree but that would require me to publicly admit I’ve seen Ron Jeremy with his pants down.
To be fair to the United States, Netherlands, and the UK, the porn stored in each of these countries isn’t necessarily American or Dutch or British porn. Anyone from around the world can purchase or rent a server in the US, Netherlands, and the UK and throw up a porn website. The stats here aren’t saying what nationality the porn is but rather where the porn is hosted. There are a variety of reasons why these countries are big in terms of hosting porn, including but not limited to modern web infrastructure and friendly laws.
Other countries that you would expect to be on higher in the list due to the fact that they also have modern data centers, such as Germany, aren’t as conducive to porn content due to laws aimed at protecting consumers.
We shall conclude this broadcast with a a word of wise advice. f you are interested in getting involved in the porn industry, we recommend taking a flight to California. Apparently, California is responsible for 66 percent of all porn content created in the United States.
