Samsung is giving free Galaxy S mobile phones to frustrated iPhone 4 users

Okay this is eerie. I just finished writing a rant regarding Apple fanboys trolling Samsung Galaxy S reviews (literally less than an hour ago). So imagine my surprise – and feeling of deja vu – when I read Samsung is giving out free Galaxy S smartphones (Samsung’s latest flagship, kick-ass mobile phone) to frustrated iPhone 4 users:

“Recently there has been a real increase in online activity from consumers dissatisfied with some of our competitors’ products. We decided to contact a cross section of individuals to offer them a free Samsung Galaxy S as a replacement, as we’re confident that once people have the phone in their hands, they’ll see how impressive it is for themselves.”

-Official statement from Samsung to CNN.com/Wired

The free giveaway of the Galaxy S phones seems to be occurring via Twitter. A select number of users who have vented their frustration about their iPhone 4 on Twitter are being contacted by Samsung in regards to receiving a free Galaxy S. Although it seems like the iPhone 4 is the main target, Samsung’s latest tweet seems to indicate users of any competitor’s handset are eligible:

Know someone who’s been experiencing issues with their phone? Spread the word they could try our new Samsung #GalaxyS to see how it compares

While Samsung does not provide too much detail on how they are conducting this giveaway, it seems to be occurring in Europe only.

An interesting thought occurred to me. Apple offered iPhone 4 customers the chance for a full refund. So, will the iPhone 4 owners that get a free Galaxy S from Samsung be able to refund their iPhone 4? I think they might just be able to do that.

Now I wish I had bought an iPhone 4, faced signal problems for a month, and ranted about it on Twitter; I could have been holding a Samsung Galaxy S right now. Enjoy for those who are lucky enough to get a Galaxy S.

(As a side note, Samsung is also running a win-a-Galaxy-S-for-free sweepstakes on Facebook for those who forgot to vent about iPhone 4 frustrations on Twitter.)
