A new day brings a new beginning — and another free app from Amazon. This time it is Quickoffice Pro. Yes ladies and gents — you heard that right. For the next 24-hours (November 14, 2011 only) Amazon is giving away Quickoffice Pro ($14.99 regular price) for free:

(Note: Amazon Appstore is USA only, so this freebie is USA only.)

For those that don’t know what Quickoffice Pro does:

Quickoffice® Pro takes mobile productivity to the next level with this must-have, award-winning productivity suite for Android smartphones. Work with Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations while conveniently accessing files remotely from your Google® Docs, Dropbox, Box.net, Huddle™, SugarSync, and MobileMe™ accounts or from your SD card with our enhanced Connected File Manager. For viewing PDF files, our advanced PDF viewer is included, as well.

So now that you know what Quickoffice Pro does and where to get it for free from, what are you waiting for? Go grab it! Remember with Amazon you own the apps you get for free so even if you don’t need this app right now, go grab it for the future: Once you get it, you can install it whenever and on whichever device you want.

    @Caleb Stein: Your SGS2 didn’t come with full version of ThinkFree Office? That’s surprising considering SGS1 does.

    @harrrrrrr: That actually is an excellent idea on how to get Amazon apps prior to actually getting an Android device. I will look into it and post an article if it’s possible.

    @mukhi: Yeah. :-(

    I was going to try to run a simulation of Android via GoogleAppEngine-1.6.0.msi which seems to require that you install ActivePython- first… but alas ran out of time for the quickoffice giveaway. Has anyone tried to simulate an Android and been able to download apps from the Amazon App store? Perhaps this is mukhi’s workaround (“No Android part can be solved too — but not by me. :-P” ). Any help with the workaround would be nice. I have one of the $150 Touchpads and was hoping to convert this to the android OS and use apps from the Amazon free daily giveaways at some time in the future.

    Problem: whenever I try to open a document in a different app, QuickOffice gives an error :( . Well at least I get updates and it didn’t make me get rid of the QuickOffice regular that came on my phone.

    @Ashraf: Like harrrrr, I don’t have a device. You have to have one to get apps via a computer. This was on their website:

    Once you have downloaded the Amazon Appstore app to your device and signed in, you can purchase apps directly from your computer. From the app’s detail page, click the Buy now with 1-Click button or, for free apps, Get now with 1-Click.

    @mukhi: The no USA part can be solved — see http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/24397/android-how-to-get-amazon-appstore-and-daily-free-apps-from-outside-the-usa/. No Android part can be solved too — but not by me. :-P

    @harrrrrrr: I don’t think you can. I just looked into it and it seems Amazon wants you to connect an Android device with your Amazon account (which appears can only be done by installing Amazon Appstore on an Android device and logging in with your Amazon account) before they let you get any apps. Sorry — wish I could help!

    @david: Cool! I didn’t notice that — thanks for letting us know.

    @Baloo: I knew there were bound to be ways but never looked into it. Thanks for letting me know — I have written an article on it based off your tips.

    @PCbasics: I have tried it and it don’t let a purchase happen if a device isn’t already connected to the Amazon account. Have you been able to do it?

    @Jim Carter: It’s not a scam. It is legitimate. You do need a credit card. If you don’t want to enter your own credit card, see http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/24397/android-how-to-get-amazon-appstore-and-daily-free-apps-from-outside-the-usa/ — that article will show you how to get Amazon Appstore without entering your own credit card information.

    @harrrrrrr: If there is a way, I don’t know of it. Let us know if you find out.

    @afriend1: You need to install Amazon Appstore on your Android device and get the free app via Amazon Appstore on your device.

    @Phil K: I don’t know why but see http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/24397/android-how-to-get-amazon-appstore-and-daily-free-apps-from-outside-the-usa/. :-)

    @afriend1: Have you installed Amazon Appstore on your device?

    This is intensely annoying. Yankland only, so Amazon is dropping its pants and not only mooning loyal customers in the UK but farting in our direction at the same time.
    WHY are they ignoring us all ?

    @PCBasics… thanks for the help. The only problem is… when going into my Amazon acct and the app store and click download the app store wants to load the app store application before I can download the app. I don’t have an android device yet so can’t complete this step. Is there any way around this so I can just get the app without having to install the app store program? Again, thanks for your help.

    I made numerous attempts to acquire this free application. There’s always an error at which time I’m taken to a screen asking for credit card info. Seems like a scam Amazon. Now I have another useless app (Amazon App Store) to deal with!

    @harrrrrrr: Well you could first go get an amozon account, then go to the site and click amazon appstore. Click todays free app and buy it. After purchasing it, you will be able to download/install on any device after signing in to your account on the app store app on your device……

    There are many websites with instruction on how to get an Amazon.com account, even though you live outside the USA.

    Here is one with easy to follow instructions: http://www.enfotainer.com/2011/05/get-free-amazon-apps-from-even-outside-us-with-this-simple-trick-how-to-guide.

    This one goes even further; you can set up a virtual credit card, and even buy apps: http://android.modaco.com/topic/336184-using-the-amazon-appstore-from-outside-the-us-including-paid-apps.

    @Farrukh: I agree with you. Dumb restrictions like this encourage people to pirate.

    For what it is worth, you can get Amazon Appstore to work outside the USA as long as you setup the Amazon account to use a USA address and credit card. I know because I set it up for someone outside USA using my own address and credit card. If you know someone in the USA, maybe you can use their info.

    Amazon as usual doesn’t like my geographical location :(
